Historic Sears Roebuck home in Rembert, SC!

Hey folks! You can just call me "Hagood" because that's where I'm situated at 33 Hagood Street in Rembert, SC 29128. Before I get into my history, let me make known that I am an investment property. I am currently leased ($795 monthly through October 2009) and with Shaw AFB nearby, there is never a problem finding folks to come stay awhile here at 33 Hagood Street. However, you investors may decide that you want to keep me for your family because I'm such a lovable old soul.

Have you ever encountered a Sears Roebuck home before? Well, folks say that's my origin. The Sears Roebuck home is an interesting breed any way that you look at it!

Between 1908 and 1940, Sears Roebuck and Company sold and shipped possibly as many as 100,000 home kits through their mail order Modern Homes program. During that time, Sears created 447 different home styles, from simple to elegant. Buyers chose and modified a house plan to best suit their family's tastes and price range.

Imagine 1930 in Rembert, South Carolina. My new family came down to the railroad station in the horse drawn wagon. Men in our extended families, came in their wagons too, to help. What an exciting day! The family meets the first shipment of their new home. The shipments include the pre-cut lumber, drywall, asphalt roofing shingles, etc. to construct their chosen home. Men in the community and our male relatives assist with the building of the house.

The house plan was chosen from the Sears Roebuck catalog. I, Hagood, have 2547 heated square feet, a stone like exterior, gleaming hardwood floors, a full front porch and a back screened porch. Plenty of bead board was used when I was built. Downstairs and up, I have a center hallway, featuring a beautiful, curving stairway. The common living areas are on the first level....a Formal Living Room (with a Fireplace), a Formal Dining Room (with a built in China Closet and a Fireplace), a Bathroom, a Kitchen and a Laundry Room. On the second level are the 3 Bedrooms (each about 15 X 15) and another Bathroom. There is even a hidden cubby for a safe and the first floor bathroom sink is housed in a dresser.

Since I'm getting on in years, I have been updated with new wiring, new plumbing, new roof, storm windows and new central heat and air.

If you're looking for a home which can be described as charming, enchanting, historic, quaint, then, look no more. I am the one! Located on a quiet side street in the small, rural community of Rembert, I am near Shaw AFB, and between Sumter and Camden. Just across the Kershaw County line in Sumter, I am on a corner lot and two adjoining lots may be purchased. If you'd like to learn more about my origins, check out the Sears archives.

To find me, from Camden head south on 521 toward Sumter. When you get to Rembert, you'll see a caution light. Turn left onto Hagood Street (at the caution light). I, 33 Hagood Street, am the last house on the right corner at the stop sign.

If you're coming from Sumter, head north on 521 toward Camden. In Rembert, turn right at the caution light. You'll see me at the end of the street on the right.
